MASERATI MCXtrema: TRACK-ONLY HYPERCAR

The final production MASERATI MCXtrema: TRACK-ONLY HYPERCAR – #62 – has been tested and is ready to ship to Florida!

MASERATI MCXtrema: TRACK-ONLY HYPERCARBest known as “The Beast of Modena”, the 62nd of 62 Maserati MCXtrema racecars is in the process of being shipped to Maserati Tampa (Morgan Import Motorcars) for delivery to Michel D. Moss, Sarasota, Fl. A veteran vintage racer, Moss, left, is a member of the Sarasota Café Racers, Historic Sportscar racing (HSR), and the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA). Over the years, he has owned and raced the ’84 DeAtley Trans-Am Corvette, which he donated to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, in 2017, the ex-Peter Revson Can-Am Lola T163 powered by a fuel-injected 513-inch aluminum big-block, a Lola T70 Mark IIIB with a 432-inch Dart/Chevy engine, and a ’69 Ford quad-cam Turbo Gurney Santa Ana Eagle (Olsonite #42). Including the Gurney Eagle, Moss owns three vintage Indy 500 racecars.

Designed by Klaus Busse, head of Maserati Design, the MCXtrema is a 2,866-pound, track-only Hypercar powered by the 730-horsepower, 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 engine. MCXtrema production has been limited to 62 units, the last of which was ordered by Moss, who has joined Maserati Corse’s exclusive circle of ambassadors. He plans to race it in the International GT Racing Series (GTX category) with engineering and track support from Roush Competition Engines in Livonia, MI, and RM Motorsports in Wixom, MI.

MASERATI MCXtrema: TRACK-ONLY HYPERCARMoss got his first on-track experience with a MASERATI MCXtrema: TRACK-ONLY HYPERCAR last June at Monza, with Andrea Bertolini, right, Maserati’s test and development driver. Bertolini, at just 19, was the youngest Scuderia Ferrari test driver, later moving up to work in the experimental and racecar development labs at Ferrari. He won the WEC Championship (GTE AM) and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2015, and is currently Maserati’s Chief Test Driver.

After hot laps with Bertolini in an MCXtrema development prototype, Mike Moss shared his experiences trackside with Italian motorsports media: Holy crap! That was the most exhilarating experience I’ve ever had. The violence of the braking, flying through the S-turns, the G-forces. Unbelievable. Andrea was amazing. He brakes at the last possible point, throwing you violently forward, and then turns like the car is pegged to the track. The car never slipped in the turns. It was a violent ride. A real racecar with a real race driver. Nothing can prepare you for what you go through.”

A collector of exotics and historic racing cars (Competizione Capital Investments, LLC), Moss is also CEO of TEAM ZORA USA and the owner-driver of the Spirit of Zora ’57 Fuel Injection Corvette, which has been entered in the 1000 Miglia Experience Florida and the  Mille Miglia in Italy this year. TEAM ZORA USA and the Spirit of Zora are celebrating America’s Sports Car, the Corvette, that has excelled on the world stage of racing for decades, and honoring the legacy of its Godfather, Zora Arkus-Duntov.
