During its North American dynamic debut (and local charities fundraiser), the new MCLAREN 750S JOINS THE 200 MPH CLUB.
The new McLaren 750S Spider made its North American dynamic debut and became a member of the coveted “200 mph club” at the Sun Valley Tour de Force event on Saturday, July 22nd. Former McLaren Formula 1 driver Stefan Johansson piloted the brand’s latest supercar.
As part of McLaren’s 60th anniversary celebrations, the new 750S joined its predecessors, the renowned 720S and track-focused 765LT, to aim for the 200-mph mark on a 3.2-mile stretch of closed state highway in the heart of scenic Sun Valley, Idaho.
Johansson was amongst a bevy of McLaren customers who secured VMAX velocities in excess of 200 mph at what has been termed ‘the most unique car event in the country’ – a fundraiser organized to benefit non-profit charities in the local Sun Valley area.
The McLaren 750S defines a new benchmark for supercar performance and driver exhilaration. The lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren, the new V8-engined, 740 horsepower McLaren 750S – available in Coupe and Spider versions – is unashamedly a supercar for the purist. With ferocious performance, it can reach 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds and 124 mph in 7.2 seconds and – as confirmed by Saturday’s run – an independently verified top speed in excess of 200 mph.
Stepping out of the 750S after its initial run in the US, former Formula 1 driver Stefan Johansson, who achieved five podium positions with McLaren in the 1987 season, was full of praise for McLaren’s newest supercar:
“Driving the 750S is a truly inspiring experience. It is comfortable, predictable, and yet amazingly fast. You feel secure and confident behind the wheel, while still unleashing outstanding levels of performance. It’s a supercar that builds on the legacy of its benchmark predecessor the 720S in all respects.”
First customer deliveries of the car will commence later this year, but the US allocation of cars is already sold out deep into 2024.
