CORVETTE Z06 & C7.R: WIN-WIN FOR CHEVY!

The new, most-powerful-ever Z06 Corvette supplies the basic platform for the all-out racecar. It doesn’t get any better than this!
“The new Z06 delivers levels of performance, technology and design that rival the most exotic supercars in the world,” said Mark Reuss, GM Executive VP Product Development, at the
Z06 and C7.R reveal this morning at the Detroit Auto Show.

The ‘15 Z06 features a new LT4 6.2-litersupercharged V-8 engine and the debut of a new GM developed eight-speed automatic transmission. Chevrolet’s new Z06 is the first Z06 to offer a supercharged engine, automatic transmission with paddle shifters and a removable roof panel.

“Now the question on the Z06 isn’t going to be whether we’ll be able to exceed the performance of the previous Z06 or even the ZR1,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette
Development chief. “The truth is how far are we going to obliterate the track
records of those previous generation cars!”

The seventh-version Corvette racecar shares much of the same structure, including the production car’s aluminum frame. Juechter said improvements made to the ‘14 Corvette Stingray gave GM a good starting point for the next-generation racecar that has a
40-percent stiffer chassis than the previous C6.R.
