Chevrolet was three years late to the Ponycar Party, but the long-hood, short-deck Camaro made up for lost time. Suddenly, the Ponycar market was chock full of new style and power choices. Soon after the Camaro’s public introduction, there appeared a potent 302-inch small-block in Z28 trim and big-block 396 engines with up to a potent 375 solid-lifter horsepower rating. GM’s F-Body Camaro represented the carmaker’s first venture into Mustang territory. Slightly longer, wider and lower than a Mustang, the Camaro introduced new levels of power.
