RODS & CUSTOMS ON THE COAST: MONTECITO!

Some of the finest machines in the area came out to help raise money for a great cause. Our man on the Left Coast, Jim Palam, captures some of the highlights.

This year’s Coast Village Classic Car Show attracted more than 150 head-turning show and go specialty cars and thousands of enthusiasts to the tony town of Montecito, CA this
past weekend. They also celebrated the Corvette’s 60th anniversary. Show benefited

Special Olympics of Santa Barbara.

It’s Hammer Time! Michael Hammer, above, heir to the Armand Hammer fortunes and father of actor Armie Hammer, brought a fleet of classics, including the “Hammer Time” ’57 Chevy Gasser, below, a bitchin’ baby blue ’30 Ford Model-A coupe, an original ’66 Shelby 427 Cobra, classic Bentley and a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. On the money!

Winfield would be impressed! Brighton Keck’s perfect, one-off, hand-built ‘27 Model T racecar pays homage to Ed Winfield’s original winning car that ran at the legendary Ascot Raceway in Los Angeles in 1928.

Pep & Pizazz! David Jones’ ‘61 Ferrari GTE is the epitome of luxury, performance and grand touring. A stunning example of this seldom-seen model.

Big Tank Brigade! Not one, but three big fuel tank Corvettes lined Coast Village Road on Sunday This ’63 Z06 features 36.5 gallon tank, 360-horsepower FI 327, heavy duty brakes, suspension and steering. It had been raced extensively at Colorado Raceway, with Sir Stirling Moss often behind the wheel!

Fast Family! Seth Hammond brought the Santa Barbara family’s record-setting AA/Gas Lakester to the show. Both son and daughter pilot this big-block Chevy machine on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Seth’s wife Tanis is the first woman to set a record over 300 mph.

Green Means Go!  Tony Ingram’s meticulously prepared ‘63 Lotus Super 7 is super low and ready to go. Twin cam motor is Weber carbureted.

Tie-Dyed Leather Jaguar!  Of course, every Southern California car show needs a “One Name” celebrity. Legendary tie-dye artist (think Janis Joplin & Jimi Hendrix circa Woodstock) ‘Zubin’ was resplendent in tie-dye leather vest & sandals to match his tie-dyed leather interior Jaguar sedan.
